▌Abstract
Digital game-based learning needs to be combined with appropriate learning strategies or tools in order to promote learning. Many elementary school students feel frustrated about learning mathematics. However, the fraction concept is the foundation of mathematical learning. Instructors should provide more assistance to enhance students’ learning performance. Programmed instruction is an effective teaching method which instuctors analyze teaching materials into small steps and compile a series of questions. Students can learn step by step without feeling defficult. Therefore, in this study, programmed instruction is proposed for developing a game-based environment to facilitate students’ learning about fraction concept. This study was based on a quasi-experimental design. The research purposes are comparing differences in students’ achievements and learning attitude toward two different modes. The experimental group used the programmed instruction digital game-based learning system, while the control group used the general digital game-based system. The results indicated that programmed instruction digital game-based learning system had positive effect in mathematical achievements and learning attitude. It was also found that students were satisfied with different DGBL systems and had positive attitude for them. These findings suggest tha DGBL with programmed instruction can play an important role in improving mathematical learning.
