Abstract

With the widespread use of digital technology, elementary school students are spending more time online, which exposes them to higher risks of digital gender-based violence. As a result, it’s become crucial to enhance their awareness, ability to identify risk, and self-protection skills. However, current teaching materials mainly adopt awarning-based approach and often lack content closely connecting with students’ real-life experiences. This study aims to develop a fifth-grade curriculum using case-based teaching to strengthen students’ understanding of digital gender-based violence. The curriculum highlights real-life relevance and encourages student participation, integrating practical examples to promote learning. A quasi-experimental design was employed, involving two fifth-grade classes from an elementary school in New Taipei City, with a total of 52 students. The experimental group received instruction through case-based teaching, while the control group was taught using traditional lecture methods. Both groups covered the same content on digital gender-based violence. The curriculum centered on a news story as a case, guiding students to explore the causes of digital gender-based violence, its relevance to their lives, and possible response strategies. This
study explored the effectiveness of case-based teaching in promoting student understanding and engagement in preventing digital gender-based violence.
