Abstract

Curriculum Guidelines of 12Year Basic Education, emphasizes core competencies, highlighting the values of initiative, interaction, and mutual benefit. As a key component of the Comprehensive Activity domain, Scout education fosters students’ practical skills, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities. However, traditional Scout instruction often relies on teacher-centered approaches such as lecturing and demonstration. Although Scout classes are commonly conducted in group settings, students tend to passively
receive knowledge with limited opportunities for active participation or peer interaction, which may result in suboptimal learning outcomes.
This study aims to explore the impact of integrating the Team Game Tournament (TGT), a cooperative learning strategy, with an Instant Response System (IRS) using Kahoot! into a seventh-grade Scout orientation curriculum on students’ learning outcomes. A one-group pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design was adopted, involving 30 seventh-grade students from a junior high school in New Taipei City. Over
three weeks, students participated in six sessions focused on orientation skills. The researcher-developed “Orientation and Map Reading Test” was used as the research instrument, and data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and a paired-samples t-test.
The results indicated that students’ posttest scores (M = 77.00) were significantly higher than their pretest scores (M = 55.33). The paired-samples t-test revealed a statistically significant difference (t = -8.89, p < .001), confirming that the instructional model effectively enhanced students’ learning outcomes in Scout orientation. These findings demonstrate that integrating IRS with cooperative learning strategies in Scout education holds strong practical value for improving learning effectiveness.
