Abstract

Due to the advancement of mobile hardware, mobile gaming has rapidly developed and has become a common daily activity for many people. Many games convey ideas to players, and puzzle games with a “find the cones” concept are one of them. This study mainly explores the design and learning effectiveness of 2D horizontal mobile puzzle games on environmental education issues. The study subjects were 34 college students from a national university. After playing the game’s environmental issue levels for ten to fifteen minutes, a subsequent questionnaire survey was conducted. The results of the 34 valid responses showed that: (1) the game has potential effectiveness in conveying environmental concepts, (2) the game has interesting storylines that can keep learners engaged, and (3) some players face challenges in solving puzzles.
