Abstract
This study aims to reveal the key to consistent high scoring in launching scoring discs into the goal zones as required in the Vex IQ 2022-2023 competition. In the early stage, the fluctuation in scoring induces the authors’ investigation for innovation, not only in hardware, but also in software, to improve the disc dispensers of the most prevalent types, both the intermittent slapping launcher and the slapshot flywheel launcher, correspondingly. The summarized scoring after the standardization from accuracy (mean value) and stability (standard deviation) are the criterions for comparison.
The investigation reveals that the scoring efficiency for the intermittent slapping launcher is increased by 62.1% from 12.76 to 20.68, while that the scoring efficiency for slapshot flywheel launcher is increased by 27.1% from 16.86 to 21.2
Despite the option for the slapshot flywheel launcher in competition due to easier mechanical maintenance, the drastic enhancement in scoring efficiency for the intermittent slapping launcher, after the strength adjustment of rubber bands as well as the increase in the number of kits, also deserves attention for further investigation.
