Abstract

When conducting local teaching, outdoor teaching can effectively improve the learner’s learning effectiveness and local sentiment. But because of safety, time and manpower, teachers do not recommend taking the children outdoors. Therefore, this study uses virtual reality and digital games to enhance the learning effectiveness and local identity of students by incorporating digital learning into local education. This research adopts the experimental research method. The research subjects were four classes of the fourth-grade students in a primary school in middle Taiwan. Two of the classes were in the experimental group A and were implemented the virtual reality digital learning; while the other two were in the experimental group B and were implemented the digital game-based learning. The two groups were asked to fill out the test of learning effect and the questionnaire of local identity. The results show that the game-based learning group has significantly higher learning effectiveness than the virtual reality group; in terms of local identity, the two groups of learning models have advantages in all aspects .
